You will illustrate city scape’s, night scenes or space using scratch paper. Scratch paper is paper that has been coated with a thin layer of black film that, when scratched, exposes a colourful surface beneath.
Step 1. Choose a reference picture of a night scene, fireworks, space or city.
Step 2. Sketch out and plan your illustration on plain paper. After completing your plan, transfer the drawing on to a sheet of scratch paper to make your illustration.
Step 3. Before starting your illustration, practice various drawing techniques such as hatching or stippling on a scrap piece of scratch paper.
Step 4. Start your scratch paper illustration.
*The challenge in scratch paper lies in the planning that is required for success. You must think in reverse. Most of us are accustomed to making dark marks on a light surface when we draw. With scratch paper, the artist must scratch away areas that represent white.
